Nelson Grande for City Council District 1

Safer streets. Stronger local economy. Housing for all.

My name is Nelson Grande. I am the son of immigrants, a family man, business owner, and activist. I am running for the Los Angeles City Council to defend the heart and future of our community by putting people first.

I was born and raised in Highland Park, the proud son of immigrants who came to Los Angeles in search of a better life. Growing up in District 1 shaped who I am today and taught me the value of hard work, community, and standing up for what is right.

I am a husband and father raising my family in the same neighborhoods where I grew up. I know the struggles of working families because I have lived them. I understand what it means to juggle bills, fight for better schools, and want safe neighborhoods where our children can thrive.

As a business owner in the Westlake and Pico area, I have created jobs, trained young people, and supported local families. Beyond my business, I have been an activist and advocate, standing with immigrant families, small business owners, and underrepresented voices across Los Angeles.

At Franklin High, I played Panther football, an experience that connected me deeply to my community and taught me the importance of teamwork, gave me lasting friendships, and a bond with the community that has never left me.

My story is District 1’s story: rooted in resilience, powered by community, and driven by the belief that we deserve leadership that works as hard as the people who call this district home

What i stand for

Our district faces real challenges, but we also have the strength and creativity to solve them. My priorities are rooted in the needs of families, workers, and businesses across CD1. Together we can build safer streets, more affordable housing, stronger schools, and cleaner neighborhoods where every family feels they belong.

Safety

Every family deserves to feel safe at home, at school, and at work. I will support community-centered public safety, cleaner streets, and faster response times.

Housing and Affordability

Families, seniors, and young people are being priced out of their own neighborhoods. I will work to expand affordable housing options, protect renters, and partner with responsible developers to create housing that truly serves our community.

Local Economy

Small businesses are the backbone of District 1. I will cut red tape, support storefront improvements, and create opportunities for local residents, especially our youth.

Education and Youth Opportunity

Our children deserve strong schools, safe campuses, and after-school programs that keep them engaged and supported. I will work with educators and parents to expand opportunities for youth to thrive, learn, and prepare for the future.

Respect and Belonging

Los Angeles is strongest when every family feels safe and respected. I will fight against divisive policies and stand up for the dignity of every neighbor.

Homelessness

We must address homelessness with compassion and accountability. I will push for prevention programs, mental health and addiction services, and pathways that connect people to permanent housing. Our solutions must focus on both immediate relief and long-term results. I strongly believe no one should live on the streets.

My Accomplishments

Throughout my career and community work, I have focused on creating opportunities and lifting up voices that are too often left out. I built a media-tech company that created jobs and opened doors for local talent. I have been an advocate for representation in media and beyond, pushing for equity and visibility for underrepresented communities.

I have stood with immigrant families, fighting for fair treatment and respect for the people who help make Los Angeles strong. I have also mentored young people, giving them their first job opportunities and helping them build skills and confidence to succeed.

I’m all about taking action and getting results. These are not just accomplishments I am proud of; they are commitments I carry forward as I work to serve District 1.
